چکیده

This paper deals with estimations of aspirated air flow in a threedimensional vocal tract during fricative consonant phonation using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The shape of the 3-D vocal tract during phonation of fricative consonant /s/ is reconstructed from 32 coronal Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. MR images of the dental crown that contains a small amount of water were obtained using a dental crown plate. A 3-D FEM vocal tract model is formed so that the number of elements is 28686, the number of nodes is 7010, and a rigid wall constitutes the vocal tract wall. Results showed that the flow rate was high at the narrow space made between the upper central incisors and the tongue surface. An electric equivalent circuit for fricative consonant phonation was designed in consideration of the location of the noise source.

Modeling of a speech production system based on MRI measurement of three-dimensional vocal tract shapes during fricative consonant phonation

This study, based on the measurement of three-dimensional (3-D) vocal tract shapes during fricative consonant phonation, presents a realistic modeling of a human speech production system. The 3-D shapes of a vocal tract and a dental crown were measured using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). A male subject was asked to produce the fricatives /s/ and /6/ while wearing a dental crown plate that c...

Effects of consonant manner and vowel height on intraoral pressure and articulatory contact at voicing offset and onset for voiceless obstruents.

In obstruent consonants, a major constriction in the upper vocal tract yields an increase in intraoral pressure (P(io)). Phonation requires that subglottal pressure (P(sub)) exceed P(io) by a threshold value, so as the transglottal pressure reaches the threshold, phonation will cease. This work investigates how P(io) levels at phonation offset and onset vary before and after different German vo...

Air-pressure, Vocal Folds Vibration and Acoustic Characteristics of Phonation during Vocal Exercising. Part 2: Measurement on a Physical Model

The contribution aims to provide material that can be used in development of more realistic physical as well as theoretical models of voice production. The experimental set-up, methodology and the results of measurement of airflow rate, subglottal, oral and generated acoustic air pressures are presented together with the simultaneously measured flow-induced vibrations of a vocal folds replica, ...

Analysis and synthesis of fricative consonants

This thesis studies and interprets the -entory of acoustic events associated with the changing vocal-tract configurations .:at characterize fricatives preceding vowels. Theoretical considerations of the articulatory, aerodynamic and acoustic aspects of the production of fricatives provide the foundation for interpreting the acoustic data. Fricative characteristics are considered with respect to...

A Fast Semiautomatic Algorithm for Centerline-Based Vocal Tract Segmentation

Vocal tract morphology is an important factor in voice production. Its analysis has potential implications for educational matters as well as medical issues like voice therapy. The knowledge of the complex adjustments in the spatial geometry of the vocal tract during phonation is still limited. For a major part, this is due to difficulties in acquiring geometry data of the vocal tract in the pr...
